Sedalia man charged after allegedly stabbing man
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Sedalia man was charged on Monday after he allegedly stabbed another man earlier that day.
Shane Ruth was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. A failure-to-appear warrant was issued on Monday and an arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday. A $150,000 bond was set.
According to the probable cause statement, a man told law enforcement that Ruth had stabbed his left arm. He allegedly said he started to defend himself until he saw Ruth hunched over, the statement says. The man then saw blood running down from the wound. The victim had allegedly knew Shane but wasn’t friends with him, the statement says.
The victim told law enforcement that he doesn’t know why Ruth stabbed him, the statement says. Police saw a 3-4 inch cut on his left arm near his shoulder that “appeared to be deep,” the probable cause statement says. The victim also apparently had a cut on the left side of his face.
Ruth was arrested and allegedly denied assaulting anyone with a knife, the statement says. Ruth eventually claimed he and the victim were fighting and a knife was on the floor, he picked it up and threw it along the Katy Trail between South Ohio Avenue and East 14th Street, the statement says.
A witness who was with the victim allegedly told police that the victim picked her up from work and they were driving when their car died, the statement says. The pair then walked to a business, the statement says. She then saw the two fighting but “didn’t really see the whole thing,” the statement says.
The statement says Ruth was arrested for a probation warrant and was placed on a 24-hour hold. Probation violations were filed multiple times in another case. Ruth pleaded guilty on March 28, 2023, to drug possession and resisting arrest. He was sentenced to five years of supervised probation with a three-year suspended sentence.
