Woman charged after allegedly shooting man in Sedalia

MGN

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Sedalia woman was charged with five felonies after she allegedly shot a man at a residence on June 10.

Jessica Kennedy was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, illegal gun possession and two counts of armed criminal action. Court records indicate that a warrant was served on Saturday. An arraignment was held on Monday and Kennedy appeared by video from the Pettis County Jail. Her next hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called to a residence near East 17th Street in Sedalia for a report of shots heard. Police found a man in the street near a black SUV who had said he was shot in the leg, the statement says.

The victim allegedly told police that he was shot by Jessica Kennedy, court documents say. He allegedly told officers – while he was in an ambulance – that he went to the residence to speak with Kennedy’s roommate, the statement says. Kennedy allegedly told the man to leave her roommate alone before getting into an argument, the statement says.

“They argued and he told her ‘If you’re going to shoot me then do it’ and she did,” the probable cause statement says.

The roommate allegedly told police that Kennedy left the area on a green bicycle, the statement says. She had allegedly told police that the man arrived at the residence while she was arriving. Kennedy and the man started arguing and the roommate allegedly told him to get away from the house, the heavily redacted probable cause statement says.

The roommate then allegedly went inside the house and heard a gunshot, the statement says. The roommate then called 911 and Kennedy and the man were still arguing, the statement says.

No shell casings were found, the statement says.
