Two men were charged in Cole County after allegedly brandishing guns at another person during a road rage incident on Thursday.

Robert M. Matthews, 41, of Jefferson City, was charged on Friday with second-degree assault, illegal gun possession, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Michael John Skyler Libbert, 18, of Holts Summit, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Both men are being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. Court dates have not been scheduled.

A press release from the Jefferson City Police Department also states a juvenile was detained. The youth was detained and transported to the Prenger Juvenile Center pending a juvenile referral and no further information will be released about them, the release says.

According to court documents, a call was made to joint communications at 2:39 p.m. Thursday about two men in a white car brandishing guns at the victim. Police conducted a traffic stop on a white Chrysler sedan at 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of Country Club Drive and West Truman Boulevard.

Court documents say Matthews was the front-seat passenger and Libbert was the driver. Police found three guns in the vehicle, according to court documents. Matthews allegedly admitted to pulling a gun from a backpack and pointing it at the victim, and Libbert allegedly admitted to brandishing an AR-15, court documents say.
