SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Sedalia man was charged with child enticement on Sunday.
Bill Shackelford, born in 1954, had a warrant issued for his arrest on Sunday. An arraignment was held Monday. Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders told ABC 17 News in a Tuesday email that Shackelford bonded out of jail at 1:30 p.m. Monday. His bond was set at $50,000. Shackelford's next hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7.
According to the probable cause statement, Shackelford allegedly started messaging an account -- that allegedly told Shackelford they were a child -- on Facebook Messenger on April 13. The probable cause statement says information and a cellphone on the youth account was gathered and supplied by an “organization,” however the name of the group was redacted.
Anders told ABC 17 News on Tuesday there was an "out of state entity set to identify potential predators and then stream the confrontation live on social media. That’s how this went down."
Shackelford allegedly attempted to speak about sexual acts with the account - which stated they were 11 years old, court documents say. A video call allegedly occurred on Friday, but details weren’t available in the probable cause statement.
Shackelford – while he was at the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office -- allegedly admitted to sending messages to the account, but claimed he did not intend to meet the child in person, court documents say.
