St. Joseph couple get jail time in Jan. 6 case
WASHINGTON, D.C. (News-Press NOW)
Kim and Steven Dragoo of St. Joseph, Missouri, have been sentenced to serve 14 days each in jail for a misdemeanor offense on Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol, based on preliminary information.
At the request of News-Press NOW, CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane attended the sentencing hearing on Friday afternoon in Washington, which the Dragoos attended in person. MacFarlane said that the sentence would be served a week at a time for a total of two weeks with no intermittent release permitted during each week of jail time.
Prosecutors had suggested that part-time jail service may be appropriate for the crime of unlawful parading inside the U.S. Capitol, but Judge Beryl A. Howell did not wholly embrace their recommendations. They had also asked for Kim Dragoo to be confined for a term of 21 days, seven more than they asked for her husband. However, both will serve 14.
Each Dragoo will also have to serve 36 months of probation after their jail time, pay $500 in restitution and a $5,000 fine.
