Jefferson City police say shooting victim not talking

EDITOR'S NOTE: The day the shooting happened has been corrected.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police found a gunshot victim at a hospital after a shooting Saturday but the wounded person apparently had no desire to speak with cops.

Jefferson City Police Department officers were called around 7 p.m. Saturday to the area of Hickory Street Park for shots fired, JCPD said in a news release. Officers found several shell casings in the street and a damaged house and closed the 500 block of Hickory Street for investigation.

Police later found out a gunshot victim had been taken to a local hospital by vehicle. The 37-year-old Jefferson City resident refused to give information, reportedly saying "I wouldn't tell you if I did," in regard to the shooter's identity, according to the release.

Police later found a 10mm handgun in the backyard of a residence in the area of the shooting, which was consistent with the casings found at the park.

Investigators questioned three people based on witness descriptions but later released them.
