BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

An inmate at the Boonville Correctional Center was charged with first-degree assault on Monday after authorities claimed he poured hot water on another inmate in January.

An arraignment was set for Russell McKelvey for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23. Court documents state that McKelvey allegedly walked from his living area at 2:06 a.m. Jan. 26 and “threw scalding hot water” onto another offender. Two other inmates were also hit with the water, but had minor injuries, the statement says.

Court documents claim McKelvey allegedly told corrections officers that the victim allegedly made threats against him. The statement says McKelvey “did not have any other statements that would corroborate his story.”
