MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was charged in Montgomery County on Thursday after he led law enforcement on a chase Wednesday on Interstate 70, court documents say.

Marvin Coney Jr. was charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest by fleeing, as well as three misdemeanors: Reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle and driving while revoked. No bond was set. An initial court appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

According to the probable cause statement, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Coney near mile marker 178 in the westbound lane of Interstate 70. The statement says the white Toyota driven by Coney had license plates registered to a Chevrolet, court documents say.

Coney allegedly stopped his vehicle and sped away once the deputy got out of his patrol vehicle.

Coney allegedly got off the interstate in New Florence and sped through a gas station before getting back on Interstate 70, the statement says. He allegedly topped 100 miles per hour while cutting between vehicles and driving on the shoulder of the highway, court documents say.

The statement says law enforcement used spikes on Coney’s tires multiple times, he then drove into a grass median in Callaway County, got out of the vehicle and ran away. He was eventually arrested, the statement says. The statement says a gun that was reported stolen in January was found in the Toyota.
