Boonville police arrest youth accused of shooting stolen gun

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boonville police arrested a youth who was accused of shooting a stolen gun, according to a Wednesday press release.

The name of the juvenile was not released. According to the release, Boonville police and Cooper County Sheriff’s deputies were near Boonville Lions Aquatic Center at 1:15 a.m. Monday when they heard several gunshots.

Law enforcement found the youth in a vehicle, the release states. The child did not have a driver’s license. Police searched the vehicle and found a gun, ammunition and marijuana, as well as fired cartridge cases in the roadway and a wallet in the road, the release states.

Police contacted the owner of the wallet and learned the gun and the wallet were stolen from a parked vehicle, the release states. The youth was taken into custody and released to a juvenile officer, the release says.

At this time there is no evidence to suggest there was any intended victim for the shooting incident and no property damage has been discovered relative to the gunshots.
