Man charged with kidnapping in Gasconade County arrested after standoff
ROSEBUD, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Rosebud man was charged with several felonies after he was arrested on Sunday, following a standoff.
Matthew Gerlemann was charged with three counts of second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. A warrant was served and a $100,000 bond was set. An arraignment was scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Gasconade County Courthouse.
According to the probable cause statement, Gasconade County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a house in Rosebud early Sunday. One of the victim’s, Gerlemann’s wife, had called law enforcement and stated he was armed with several guns and the victim was afraid that Gerlemann would try to shoot law enforcement. The woman said she was hiding in a locked bathroom and was unable to leave the residence with her children, according to the probable cause statement.
Deputies saw Gerlemann in the kitchen of the house and called him to negotiate, the release states. Gerlemann allegedly told law enforcement that he had a gun and that if they came into the building, “it would be bad.”
The statement says “After a lengthy standoff, a trained Negotiator was able to talk Matthew into surrendering and was taken into custody.”
The woman later stated that Gerlemann had apparently fired shots at their dog and allegedly threatened to shoot the woman, according to the probable cause statement.
