Callaway County man accused of throwing Molotov cocktail, swinging machete at man

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Callaway County man was charged with several felonies after he was accused of trying to light another man on fire and then attempt to hit him with a machete.

Colin Humphrey, 18, was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted assault, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, Humphrey allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail that landed at the victim’s feet while the victim was sitting in a chair on Sunday at a residence in the 8400 block of Route NN. The victim told Callaway County Sheriff’s deputies that Humphrey then yelled, “nobody wants you here you mooch.”

The victim then allegedly told deputies that Humphrey tried to slash him with a machete, but he was able to avoid the strikes.

Humphrey told deputies the victim “mooched his way into their home” and wanted him gone, the statement says. Humphrey allegedly told deputies that he threw a Molotov cocktail at the victim’s feet.

He then allegedly said he swung a stick at the victim. Deputies explained they were told there was a machete and Humphrey stated he swung a machete at the victim, the statement says. He claimed he was trying to scare the victim off the property, court documents say. Humphrey told deputies the machete was in the woods next to the residence and deputies were able to locate it.

A witness allegedly told deputies that Humphrey does not like the victim and was mad the victim was staying at their residence. The two had been arguing in the days leading up to the alleged incident, the statement says. The witness heard screaming from the front yard on Sunday and claimed Humphrey walked into the residence and told her he threw a Molotov cocktail at the victim, the statement says.
