Homicide investigation of man found dead in Moberly becomes death investigation

MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The death of a Moberly man who was found dead in January with a “goose-egg knot” on his head is no longer a homicide investigation.

Corey Davis was found dead on Jan. 29 near a wood line in the 900 block of North Moulton Street in Moberly. He was 35.

Randolph County Sheriff Aaron Wilson told ABC 17 News in January that it was ruled as a homicide “until we know differently.” Davis did not have wounds from a gunshot or a stabbing.

Wilson told ABC 17 News on Friday that the department is still investigating if foul play was involved, but the case is now a death investigation. Wilson said in a text message that the department is still waiting on toxicology results from the autopsy, “but it's looking like an overdose. We have spoken with several individuals however no one is cooperating.”

Davis was reportedly staying with friends in the area at the time of his death, according to previous reporting. Wilson said results from the autopsy could come back this month.
