Jefferson City man convicted by federal jury for January 2023 armed bank robbery
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man was convicted in federal court on Thursday for robbing a credit union in January 2023, according to a Friday press release from the Department of Justice.
Tre Joseph Connor, 29, of bank robbery, brandishing a gun during a violent crime, and one count of being a felon with a gun, the statement says. He was initially charged in Cole County with first-degree robbery, illegal use of a weapon, illegal gun possession and three counts of armed criminal action. The case was moved to federal court in April 2023.
The release states he wore a ski mask and pulled out a gun on a River Region Credit Union employees on Jan. 19, 2023, and stole about $111,700, the release states.
According to previous reporting and the Friday release, investigators used security cameras to identify Connor, including Walmart security camera footage that apparently showed him purchase clothes and other items used in the robbery. According to previous reporting, he was arrested after Jefferson City SWAT served a search warrant in the 3800 block of Candlelight Drive.
The release states Connor was on probation at the time of the robbery. He pleaded guilty to sharing private sexual images without consent on Jan. 19, 2021, and was sentenced to five years of probation with a seven-year suspended sentence, according to court records.
He was also charged with stealing and two counts of second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in Cole County. A hearing in that case is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the Cole County Circuit Court.
