Boonville man charged in deadly Business Loop crash, arrested by Howard County deputy
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boonville man has been charged with four felonies including manslaughter in a Feb. 2 crash.
Matthew C. Shilling, 43, of Boonville, was charged Friday with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, two counts of armed criminal action, second-degree assault and one misdemeanor of driving without a license.
The Columbia Police Department wrote in a social media post that Shilling was arrested by a Howard County Sheriff's deputy. Shilling was booked into the Howard County Jail at 3:23 p.m. Friday.
Shilling is accused of causing a crash that killed Christina Mayfield, 32, on Business Loop 70 near Hathman Place. Police say a motorcycle driven by a person they have not identified was rear-ended by Shilling's SUV, sending it forward into another SUV and throwing the driver and Mayfield from the bike.
The driver suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Shilling has nine convictions on his driving record for driving with a suspended or revoked license and another for no license, according to a probable cause statement. He also had no proof of insurance.
Video from a nearby business showed Shilling's SUV traveling at high speed, police say.
A warrant for his arrest without bond was issued Friday. Police say Shilling recently lived in Texas and his SUV had a Texas registration, making him a flight risk.
