A Boone County man was charged with several felonies after authorities claim he shot at a vehicle on Sunday that contained a man and two children.

Jason Bradley Jones, 36, was charged with two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor. His address is listed as Columbia on Casenet, but jail records say his address is in Hallsville. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement, a child called first responders and said his father, stepfather and mother were involved in a fight and that one person had a gun. The child eventually put his father on the phone, who said Jones fired shots at his vehicle, court documents say. He met with deputies at a gas station.

At his residence, Jones was allegedly seen pacing inside a house when law enforcement arrived, the statement says. He apparently had blood on his shirt, torso and neck. The statement says he “refused to provide a clear statement, but when asked about shots being fired, stated, ‘he had a right to defend’ himself.”

There were three additional children inside the house, two of which were Jones’ according to the statement, and were “visibly sacred and shaken up.”

The alleged victim had told law enforcement that his two children were at Jones’ residence to watch the Super Bowl when the mother and Jones started arguing, the statement says. One of his children called and asked to be picked up, the statement says. The man arrived and Jones allegedly lunged towards him and hit the man. The man fought back and punched Jones in the mouth, causing Jones to bleed, the statement says.

The man and his two children got into his vehicle and began leaving the residence, when Jones allegedly shot at the vehicle several times, the statement says. None of the shots hit the vehicle, but deputies found eight shell casings “on or near” the front porch.
