Man dies after getting shot at gas station on West Boulevard, suspect arrested

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man died Thursday night after getting shot at a gas station near the intersection of West Boulevard and Interstate 70 Drive Southwest, police confirmed on their social media and at the scene.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Christian Tabak said the suspect was found and arrested.

Upon the arrival of officers, they discovered one adult male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," the post read. "Witnesses on scene stated the alleged suspect was still on scene. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody and transported him to the Columbia Police."

The person accused of shooting the man was still in the area when police arrive, Tabak said.

The victim and the suspect have not been named by law enforcement. Police do not think there is another suspect and say there is no danger to the community.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw 12 police vehicles an ambulance and a firetruck at the Phillips 66 near West Boulevard.

Police taped off the entire gas station parking lot and the pumps, which was taken down at 10:43 p.m. Witnesses in the area told ABC 17 News that they heard five shots fired.

One of the witnesses told ABC 17 News that they saw someone laying in the parking lot of the station. That woman checked his pulse and he was alive at that time. There were seven evidence markers seen and clothes were laying on the ground in the parking lot.

A tow truck eventually pulled a vehicle away from the scene.

ABC 17 News is working to learn more information.
