A Jefferson City man was charged on Thursday after he allegedly caused more than $1,000 worth of damage while fleeing a crash site.

Joshua Steen, 39, was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident that caused more than $1,000 worth of damage and four misdemeanors: Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, DWI and two counts of operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

Steen is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond, according to court records. An arraignment is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cole County Circuit Court.

According to the probable cause statement, Steen hit another vehicle with his vehicle at the intersection of Highway 50/63 West and Madison Street. The make and model of Steen’s vehicle was not described in court documents.

Steen allegedly drove away from the crash and ended up crashing into a fence in the 1400 block of West McCarty Street. The crash caused more than $1,000 worth of damage, the statement says.

The statement says Steen was seen not stopping at stop signs and his vehicle became airborne at the intersection of Hart and West Miller streets.

A Jefferson City police officer wrote in the statement that Steen appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic and was found with drug paraphernalia.
