LEBANON, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Eldon man who was accused of murdering a 71-year-old woman in 2020 will be committed to the Department of Mental Health.

Terry E. Ewens, 60, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree kidnapping.

According to court documents, the Laclede County Sheriff is ordered to transport Ewens to a Department of Mental Health facility. The Department will conduct an examination on Ewens within six months to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial, the order reads.

A case review is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, July 1.

The case was moved from Miller County to Laclede County in 2021 after a change of venue.

According to previous reporting, Ewens was arrested on Sept. 5, 2020, following a standoff that occurred at 18 Emery Road in Rocky Mount. A 71-year-old woman was killed and two other people – a 51-year-old woman and 82-year-old man -- were injured.
