Jefferson City man charged in Boone County chase on Highway 63

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Prosecutors on Friday charged a Jefferson City man with a chase earlier this month that exceeded 100 mph on Highway 63, according to court documents.

Kevin Adams was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing -- a felony -- and misdemeanor careless driving. Adams was issued a citation and has a Jan. court date set, online court records say.

Authorities began to chase Adams after he was seen driving a Kia Soul the wrong way late on Dec. 19 on Highway 63 near Turkey Creek, according to a probable cause statement. Adams pulled away from a traffic stop on Highway 63 near Grindstone Parkway and authorities later lost track of the vehicle on Highway 63.

Deputies saw a woman in the passenger seat trying to gain control of the vehicle.

Adams was later found at University Hospital after running away from the vehicle and hurting himself in a matter that the statement doesn't describe, authorities say.

The probable cause statement says there was no traffic on Highway 63 when the chase reached its highest speeds. However, the suspect vehicle passed three others at over 100 mph near Deer Park before the chase ended when the driver turned off the suspect vehicle's headlights and tail lights, according to the statement.
