An Otterville man was charged with three counts of failing to register as a sex offender after authorities say he failed to register his social media accounts.

Mitchell Harrington, 43, is being held at the Cooper County Jail on a $7,500 bond. Online jail records indicate he has a court date set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

According to the probable cause statement, law enforcement responded to a residence on Sept. 3 for a domestic disturbance that allegedly involved Harrington.

Harrington allegedly told law enforcement that he was a social media influence and was gaining a following on TikTok. Harrington is required to report all social media accounts, email accounts, phone numbers and other changes to his registry within three business days, the statement says. He previously registered at the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 7, the statement says, and law enforcement found accounts that were not listed on his registry.

Law enforcement found a TikTok account that showed Harrington’s face and name, the statement says. The account had more than 2,600 followers as of Tuesday. The account included posts that dated back to July, the statement says.

Harrington also had a Facebook account that was created on May 31, according to the statement. The account was made with an email listed on Harrington’s registry and return information from Meta –Facebook and Instagram’s parent company -- indicates an IP address in the Otterville area was used, according to the statement. It also allegedly included a phone number that Harrington did not report, the statement says.

The statement says law enforcement also found an Instagram account and a Twitter account that was not reported. Return data from Meta allegedly showed that the Instagram account was created on April 25, the statement says. The Instagram account had more than 300 followers. The Twitter account was created in June, the statement says.
