A Jefferson City man has been charged after he was accused of holding a knife and charging at another man who knocked on his front door.

Julius Leonard, 45, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond, according to Casenet. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, a man in a neighborhood east of Highway 50 walked to a neighbor’s house on Schroeder Way on Thursday to see if his girlfriend was inside the home. The victim allegedly told police that he knocked on the door and Leonard charged at him with a knife.

The statement says the man’s girlfriend then came out of the residence and the pair went back home.

Police went to Leonard’s residence and he allegedly said that the victim tried to assault him, the statement says.

A witness, who was at Leonard’s residence, allegedly told police that she saw Leonard charge at the man and that the man did not make a threat towards Leonard, according to court documents.
