Man in custody after standoff at Columbia apartment complex

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was arrested after a Thursday morning standoff with Columbia police.

Police told ABC 17 News that around 9 a.m., officers tried to serve an arrest warrant to a man, who refused to leave his home at the Maazi Apartments on Old 63 South in Columbia.

The man surrendered to police at 10:30 a.m. and was arrested. Columbia Police Department spokesman Christian Tabak said the man was wanted on multiple felony warrants. The name of the man has not been released.

No injuries were reported.

"We're thankful in this incident that we were able to reach a peaceful resolution," Tabak said. "But it's always difficult when you're delivering search warrants know how that's gonna go."

An ABC 17 News reporter saw members of the Columbia SWAT Team and K-9s at the apartment complex.

"Our officers are just out here, finishing up the execution of the search warrant and wrapping things up at this time," Tabak said. "There's absolutely no threat to the community. We have the situation fully under control and more information will be available as we're able to share it."
