JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man was charged with kidnapping and other felonies on Wednesday after allegedly beating a woman in a vehicle on Tuesday.

Kristopher Johnson, 22, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and second-degree domestic assault. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond, according to Casenet. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, Johnson took the victim’s children trick-or-treating with her car, with her permission before bringing them and the vehicle to where she worked. Johnson and the victim were described to be in a relationship in the probable cause statement.

Johnson allegedly refused to give the car back, according to the statement. A friend of his was allegedly supposed to pick him up, but didn’t follow through, the statement says.

The victim was in the passenger seat while the two argued and Johnson started to drive the vehicle away from the building, according to the statement. The location of the children is not described at this point in the probable cause statement.

The victim attempted to put the vehicle in park while it was moving to stop it multiple times, but Johnson was able to put it back in drive each time, the statement says.

Johnson drove the car “a considerable distance” before losing control, court documents state. The victim attempted to call police around 11:06 p.m., but her phone attached to the vehicle’s phone and led to 911 being displayed on the dash, where Johnson could see it, according to court documents. He then allegedly ended the call from the driver’s seat.

Johnson then started repeatedly punching the victim from the driver’s seat, according to court documents. While she was being assaulted, the victim was able to put the car in “park” and tried to get out of the vehicle at the intersection of Southridge Drive and Southwest Boulevard, according to court documents.

The victim grabbed an “alcohol bottle” off the floor of the vehicle, hit Johnson in the head and tried to get out, court documents say. However, Johnson was able to pull her hair and temporarily stop her from leaving, the statement says. The victim got out of the car and Johnson also got out to chase her, the statement says.

Court documents say the victim allegedly tried to get in the driver’s seat, but was stopped by Johnson. She then ran into a yard near Southridge Drive and Southwest Boulevard, and Johnson allegedly drove at the victim, but was unable to drive into the yard, the document states. The victim allegedly told law enforcement that she thought Johnson was going to kill her by running her over, so she went back into the vehicle.

Once the pair arrived at Johnson’s residence, his mother allegedly gave the victim an ice pack. The victim told Johnson’s mother that she needed to get to a hospital, but Johnson’s told her not to go, according to the statement.

The victim eventually snuck out through a back door when Johnson and his mother went upstairs. The victim was eventually brought to an area hospital by a friend, according to the statement.

Police interviewed the victim and allegedly saw several injuries to her head, face and shoulder, including cuts, swelling and bruises. The victim allegedly told police Johnson would also have injuries to his head from being hit with the bottle.

She then went back to get her car from Johnson’s residence and police saw “multiple areas of visible blood stains on the passenger seat, center console, driver’s door jamb, and steering wheel,” according to the statement.

Police eventually found the bottle in a business’ lawn with bloodstains, according to the statement.
