Columbia man sentenced in federal court to 19 years for illegal gun possession after chase

A Columbia man who was found guilty in federal court last year for illegal gun possession was sentenced on Friday, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Cecil Jason Robinson, 44, was sentenced to 19 years and seven months in federal prison without parole.

On Jan. 13, 2022, Robinson was found guilty of being a felon with a gun. He had allegedly threw a loaded gun out of a vehicle during a chase with law enforcement on Jan. 26, 2021, chase on Interstate 70, according to previous reporting.

A traffic stop was attempted on Robinson for having a faulty brake light. When a law enforcement officer turned on his emergency lights, Robinson sped from the St. Charles Road exit to the Highway 63 connector before pulling a U-turn, according to previous reporting. The chase continued as the vehicle went onto the Interstate 70 entrance ramp.

Officers allegedly saw Robinson throw the gun out of the vehicle and eventually found it in a rocky area, the report states. The gun had been reported stolen from Kansas City, Kansas, the release states.

Robinson was eventually caught in the Columbia Mall parking lot.
