COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two juveniles were taken into custody Monday north of Columbia after they bailed from a stolen car at the end of a chase, a spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies on Moberly Drive near Cunningham Drive at about 10 a.m. saw a Mazda SUV that had been reported stolen to Columbia police, Capt. Brian Leer said. The vehicle drove off when the deputies tried to stop it.

The Mazda came to a dead end after heading north on Wade School Road, Leer said. The three people inside jumped out and ran into the woods.

Two were detained on suspicion of motor vehicle tampering and resisting arrest, Leer said.

A deputy at the scene said the vehicle's owner was on the way to reclaim it Monday morning.

The sheriff's office says the driver of the vehicle was still on the run Monday afternoon.
