Two shot at Jefferson City park

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two men were shot amid a large gathering at a Jefferson City park Thursday night, police say.

Lincoln University police officers were sent to McClung Park a little after 11 p.m. on reports of gunfire, the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release. Officers found spent casings near an outdoor pavilion that indicated multiple shooters.

Investigators learned while they were at the park that a 20-year-old man had driven himself to a Jefferson City hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body, JCPD says. The victim told officers that he tried to run when he heard shots ring out at the park and realized he'd been shot in the leg, according to the release.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office contacted Jefferson City dispatchers at about 12:40 a.m. saying a 21-year-old man had shown up at a Columbia hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, JCPD says. He told officers he had been in Jefferson City when he was shot but otherwise would not cooperate, police say.

Police say they had not identified any suspects Friday morning.
