FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two men were arrested Thursday in separate chases in Callaway County, according to court documents and the sheriff’s office.

The first of two arrests has resulted in charges. Christopher Draper, 33, of St. Louis, was charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and driving while revoked. He is being held at the Callaway County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement, law enforcement responded to a call about a stolen vehicle at 4:32 p.m. The victim allegedly told deputies that Draper stole their 2014 white Dodge Durango. Police later saw the vehicle near Westminster Avenue and West 4th Street.

An officer tried to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle took off, according to the probable cause statement. The chase went on Route F before going eastbound on Highway 54. The statement says Draper almost crashed into several vehicles between Fulton and Kingdom City before heading eastbound on Interstate 70.

The vehicle eventually crashed when it went off the right side of Interstate 70 and hit a fence, according to the statement. Draper allegedly ran off into a cornfield before police found him in a pond. The statement says his license had been revoked since 2011.

Charges have yet to be filed in Thursday’s second chase, according to Casenet.

The Sheriff’s Office said on its social media that Wayne Benney, 54, of Centertown, is accused of resisting arrest, unlawful use of a weapon and delivery of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Callaway County Jail on a $10,000.

The post states that Sheriff’s deputies saw Benney getting into a vehilce at a gas station in Kingdom City and knew of a warrant for his arrest.

Deputies allegedly tried to initiate a traffic stop and Benney sped up to 120 miles per hour on Interstate 70, the statement says. The chase went to Columbia and allegedly took place on city streets before going back onto Interstate 70, the statement says.

Benney stopped the vehicle at 123 and tried to run away. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office were called in and a K-9 was used to find Benney, according to the statement.
