No criminal charges expected for Chariton County Sheriff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
No criminal charges are expected to be filed on Chariton County Sheriff Erick Billups, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman.
Billups was under investigation earlier this month by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug Crime Control. MSHP did not say why Billups was under investigation.
“The investigation is closed and the Chariton County Prosecutor was briefed on the results of the investigation,” MSHP Sgt. Darrin Haslag told ABC 17 News in an email. “Based on our findings and the conversation we had with the PA, we do not anticipate criminal charges resulting from our investigation. “
Earlier this month, multiple sources told ABC 17 News they saw Billups in a bar on Sept. 8. A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said they later saw Billups “passed out” in a vehicle in front of the sheriff's office.
Billups has a valid peace officer’s license, commissioned by the Chariton County Sheriff’s Office, according to a Missouri Department of Public Safety spokesman.
ABC 17 News has reached out to Billups.
