3-year-old boy dies after being shot Sunday afternoon, suspect identified

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 3-year-old boy who was shot Sunday afternoon in north Columbia has died, the Columbia Police Department said early Monday morning.

Police have identified Larry Brownlee Jr., 28, as a suspect. Brownlee is wanted on an arrest warrant for second-degree murder, armed criminal action and a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Columbia Police Department says to not approach Brownlee and to call the department if you have any information on his location.

Police responded to the area of LeewayDrive and Blue Ridge Road just after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Shortly after, police said the boy's mother and boyfriend were taking him to fire station nine, during which a car crash also occurred in the area of Rangeline Street and Blue Ridge Road.

"That child sustained a gunshot wound to his torso. They made the decision to quickly scoop the child up, put the child in a patrol car to provide stabilization measures while in the car, and headed to the hospital," Assistant Police Chief Jill Schlude said.

No other injuries were reported, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
