Prosecutor files first-degree murder charge in Monroe County death
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prosecutors have enhanced a murder charge and added another charge against a Monroe County man accused in a 2021 killing.
Lyle Miller of Madison, Missouri, is accused in the murder of Betty Hayes, 88. The Monroe County prosecutor on Monday changed his second-degree murder charge to first-degree murder and added an evidence tampering charge.
Miller was arrested in late July after a witness interview.
According to a probable cause statement, Monroe County Sheriff Joe Colston interviewed a witness in reference to the Hayes missing person case. The witness said they saw Miller driving quickly away from Madison the night Hayes went missing.
Hayes' remains were found in a pond.
According to the court documents, Miller was upset with Hayes because she owed him money for some work he'd done for her.
An arraignment is set for Oct. 5 in Monroe County.
