SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Sedalia man faces multiple felony charges after he allegedly set off a “bomb” in a vehicle early Thursday.

Charles Monteer, 39, was charged on Thursday with knowingly burning or exploding, first-degree property damage and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. A court date has not been set, according to Casenet. He is in the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

Sedalia police were called to a residence in reference to gunshots being fired, according to a heavily redacted probable cause statement. One of the people interviewed by police allegedly stated that Monteer “detonated a bomb,” in a vehicle.

A woman stated she went outside and saw Monteer in the vehicle yelling “get back, get back,” the statement says. The explosion occurred and Monteer left in his vehicle, the statement says. The woman was not injured and refused medical treatment.

A man allegedly told police that he ran out to check on the woman when he heard the explosion. She told him that Monteer set it off. According to the probable cause statement, the man told police that Monteer threatened to “bomb his truck” before. The man allegedly then emailed a number of threats issued by Monteer to police, the statement says.

Another person – described in the probable cause statement – alleged showed law enforcement video of the explosion, and then a silver truck driving away.

At 2:28 a.m., Pettis County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on Monteer, who was arrested and brought to the jail, the statement says.
