Teenagers involved in Mexico vehicle thefts

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mexico Public Safety Department says five teenagers were detained and released after a resident reported suspicious activity in the northwest part of town Thursday evening.

Police say in a news release that they had discovered multiple cars that had been "rummaged" through. At least one car had been stolen and abandoned 10 blocks away from where it was originally parked.

Police said they detained five teenage boys ages 12-16 early Friday morning.

According to the release, two were taken into custody by the 12th Circuit Court Juvenile Division and Division of Youth Services, and the other three were handed over to their guardians.
