Jefferson City man charged after allegedly crashing into parked vehicle during chase
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man faces several charges after he allegedly try to drive away from police and crash into a parked car early Wednesday.
Cornell R. Manley II, 39, was charged on Wednesday with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, speeding and operating a vehicle on a highway without a license.
Manly is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Jefferson City Police Department was called about an alleged break-in on McKinley Street, according to the probable cause statement. The officer saw a black Chevrolet Malibu pulling out of the driveway of the resident.
The officer identified Manley from “prior dealings,” the statement says. Manley allegedly told the officer it was “his girl’s place” and that she was fine. Manley then proceeded to drive away from police and law enforcement told him to stop, according to the statement.
Manley drove at high speeds and the officer chased after him in a vehicle with his sirens on, the statement says. Manley then crashed the Chevrolet into a parked vehicle on Cottage Lane.
Manley got out of the car and ran away, the statement says. He was taken into custody in front of a building on East Elm Street.
