A Jefferson City man was charged with several felonies after he was accused of crashing a vehicle that sent someone to the hospital while driving drunk.

Timothy C. Latham, 42, was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, DWI – causing physical injury and armed-criminal action. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, a Jefferson City police officer on Monday was patrolling on Missouri Boulevard when he heard a crash. He saw the victim slide on the street next to a motorcycle in the 2100 block of Missouri Boulevard.

The victim was conscious, but was not able to answer any questions. They were brought to University Hospital as a Level One Trauma patient, according to the statement.

The officer described Latham’s eyes as “droopy” and that Latham struggled to look at him. The officer then said in the probable cause statement that Latham’s speech was “slow, and mumbled” and that Latham was stumbling.

While Latham was gathering items from his vehicle, a plastic bag containing methamphetamine was found by police, according to the probable cause statement.

Police then conducted several field sobriety test and determined Latham was drunk, according to the statement.
