Additional charges filed against man accused of murdering Hermann police sergeant
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
More charges have been filed against the man accused of murdering a Hermann police sergeant in March, according to a press release from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
Kenneth Lee Simpson, 35, of Steelville, was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of armed-criminal action, first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful gun possession and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon. New charges include possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
He is being held without bond at the Crawford County Jail. A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Friday at the Gasconade County Courthouse.
Simpson is accused of killing Mason Griffith and injuring Adam Sullentrup by shooting them March 12 at a Casey’s in Hermann. Police caught Simpson following a more than 12-hour standoff.
According to a new probable cause statement filed on Friday, Simpson attempted to buy additional guns leading up to the shooting.
The statement also says Simpson also allegedly made statements in the weeks leading up to the murder about not wanting to go back to prison. The statement also says Simpson claimed if someone were to try to arrest him, they would have his blood on their hands.
