Camden County woman accused of stealing more than $2.8 million from employer
SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Camden County woman was charged Friday after she allegedly stole more than $2.8 million from her employer for almost six years.
Danielle Nicole Thomas, 46, of Sunrise Beach, is charged with stealing more than $25,000 and forgery. She is being held at the Camden County Jail without bond. A bond appearance hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Camden County Courthouse.
Owners of a Sunrise Beach business – which was not identified in the probable cause statement – met with police at their lawyer’s office last week and said an employee had been embezzling money from them since September 2017. They highlighted several checks over the past several years that were apparently forged, the probable cause statement says.
The business fired Thomas on Thursday, and she was arrested and interviewed by police later that day.
Thomas allegedly told police that shopping is the only thing that makes her happy and that she got greedy and stole money to pay off her credit cards. She allegedly told police that she forged the business owner’s name on the check, the probable cause statement says.
Court documents state she forged at least 367 checks and that the total is likely more than $2.8 million because July’s bank statements are not available yet. Thomas allegedly told police she acted alone and that if she were to receive a bond, she would leave the state.
The probable cause statement says she has ties to Florida and none in Missouri, aside from her husband. She told her husband to divorce her, the probable cause statement says.
