COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Mokane man has been charged after the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office says he led multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase Sunday afternoon.

Jonathan Irwin, 28, is charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, fourth-degree assault, first-degree property damage, second-degree property damage and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held in the Callaway County Jail on a $50,000 bond. A court date has not been set.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that deputies investigated a report of a stolen truck from the Dollar General in Mokane and the truck was eventually found south of Jefferson City by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The patrol and the Cole County Sheriff’s Office then began to chase the vehicle, the post says.

Law enforcement chased the vehicle back eastbound on Highway 54 into Callaway County. At some point, Irwin allegedly started driving the wrong way on the Highway 63/54 interchange, according to the post. Irwin drove the truck towards a K-9 unit and hit the vehicle. No injuries were reported for the deputy or K-9.

According to court records, Irwin was sentenced to probation for multiple charges, including stealing, driving while revoked and leaving the scene of an accident.
