Mom of man accused of multiple crimes in south Columbia: ‘I am so sorry to the community’

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The mother of 36-year-old Brandt Feutz said she is sorry for the scare her son may have caused the community after he allegedly committed a string of crimes over the past few days.

Feutz was arrested on Thursday after he lead police on a search for more than 16 hours throughout south Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department was searching for Feutz after he allegedly shot multiple bullets into his mother's home Wednesday.

"I am so sorry to the community, and all the forces that were there that had to do what it took to bring him in, everyone who had to shelter in place, I'm horrified and I'm embarrassed," Mirra Greenway said.

Greenway said Feutz has been on a "downward spiral" that started as an argument on Tuesday.

"He had just said 'Why don't you let me in?' And he had tried banging on the door a lot, and you know, had already been frightening," Greenway said.

On Wednesday at around 1 a.m. first responders arrived in the 600 block of Huntridge Drive for reports of a fire.

Greenway said she notified police that she believed Feutz was responsible for the fire, because the garage that was set on fire had her car in it. Greenway said she was in shock when she walked outside and saw the garage completely engulfed in flames.

"I just really couldn't believe it, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was him."

Feutz was also connected to the shots-fired call that occured in the same neighborhood, later that night, which prompted police to chase him throughout the southern part of Columbia. Greenway said those bullets went through her apartment.

"The slugs are all somewhere in the ceiling so I know that he wasn't trying to hit me," Greenway said.

Greenway said she and her son have always been close, and that she never thought anything like this would ever happen.

A Gofundme to replace the car Greenway lost in the fire has been started by one of her friends.
