Fulton man charged after allegedly stealing vehicle from HVAC company
FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Fulton man has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a work vehicle from an HVAC company.
Brandon Seay, 19, is charged with first-degree vehicle tampering, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and stealing more than $750. He is being held in the Callaway County Jail on a $20,000 bond. A court date has not been set.
Fulton police responded to a call Monday to Garrett & Campbell around 12:34 p.m. after a vehicle was stolen. Police reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect as Seay, according to a probable cause statement. Seay was wearing a dark-colored tank top and jeans.
Security footage allegedly showed Seay enter the vehicle through its driver side door, backing up the vehicle and hitting a fence at a residence near the business.
At 12:40 p.m., the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle with Seay near it in the 7400 block of Highway 123. The vehicle had a GPS device that gave its location, according to another probable cause statement.
Seay allegedly gave deputies a false name and told deputies the suspect was inside a residence and left, according to a probable cause statement.
A victim went to the scene and told deputies that the vehicle had roughly $2,000 worth of damage and several items were stolen from the vehicle, totaling more than $900, according to the probable cause statement.
Parts of the vehicle were found by law enforcement on a path, according to the statement.
Fulton police later found Seay in the 700 block of Bluff Street and he had apparently changed his clothes, the probable cause statement says, and Seay took off running. He was eventually detained and police also found a small fire that appeared to have clothing.
Seay pleaded guilty in May to first-degree vehicle tampering and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.
