Cole County man arrested after collision with Osage Beach police officer

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Cole County man was suspected of DWI after his vehicle collided head-on with an Osage Beach police cruiser early Friday near the Grand Glaize Bridge on Highway 54.

The Osage Beach Police Department said in a news release that the officer saw the vehicle driving toward him a little after 1 a.m. after being called for an erratic driver on Highway 54 near Highway 42. The other driver did not stop and hit the cruiser head-on.

The officer was treated and released from the hospital, police say. Jesse L. Koenigsfeld, 41, of Russellville, was driving the other car and refused treatment at the scene, according to the release.

Prosecutors charged Koenigsfeld with DWI that injured an officer, a Class D felony. He was booked into the Camden County Jail on a 24-hour hold, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report.

A probable cause statement says Koenigsfeld told a trooper after the crash that he was drunk and didn't remember the collision. An initial breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was .231. It was .221 on a later test, the statement says.

The trooper wrote that the Osage Beach officer had moderate injuries.
