COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Centralia man charged in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, pleaded guilty to a felony Thursday in a federal court.

Jerod T. Bargar, 37, pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon in a Washington, D.C., federal court, according to a U.S. attorney's news release.

A judge set sentencing for Nov. 3.

Court documents say Barger brought a 9 mm pistol into Washington, to the rally near the Ellipse and then onto Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021. That day Trump supporters stormed the Capitol during a joint session of Congress to disrupt the counting of electoral votes certifying President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.

The release says law enforcement found Bargar's gun that afternoon on the west side of the Capitol on the ground in a holster with an American flag and the words "We the People" written on it. The gun had 16 rounds in it, including a chambered round.

Bargar could be sentenced to up to 10 years in federal prison plus fines. He is one of more than 1,000 people charged in connection with the riot, according to the U.S. attorney's news release.
