Woman pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter in relation baby who died from meth overdose

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree involuntary manslaughter at the Cole County Circuit Court.

Kayla Brewer, 23, was sentenced on Tuesday to five years of supervised probation. She received a 10-year suspended sentence. She will also spend 10 days in the Missouri Department of Corrections, according to Casenet.

She was accused in the 2020 death of a 2-month-old baby who died from a methamphetamine overdose in the 800 block of Pitchfork Alley, according to previous reporting. Brewer was initially charged with second-degree murder, child abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and several drug charges.
