One hurt in shooting in south Columbia neighborhood

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police are investigating a woman's shooting in south Columbia after officers were called to a robbery.

Officers were sent to East Tayside Circle in the Highlands neighborhood Monday afternoon for a robbery in progress, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Toni Messina said. Officers found a woman who had been shot and they administered CPR, Messina said.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital and her condition is unknown, Messina said.

Police put up crime scene tape around the home where the victim was found and about a half-dozen police cruisers could be seen on the street.

Police blocked the street, Tayside Circle, while they investigate. Messina said it's not clear how long the street will be closed. Police have been at the scene since around 3:40 p.m. Police have since deployed a drone and multiple K-9 units were seen. Three police officers and a crime scene unit were still on the scene as of 9:40 p.m.

Police began taking down police tape at 10:09 p.m.

At 10 p.m., a tow truck pulled a car from the garage of the house and police were searching the garage.

Messina said police don't believe there's a threat to the community at large and that the victim was targeted. The shooting "appears to have been an intentional act," Messina said.

Police did not release information about any suspects.
