A Columbia man has been charged with domestic assault after allegedly breaking a woman’s leg on Monday.

Antonio Hazlett, 36, is charged with first-degree domestic assault and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has yet to be announced.

According to the probable cause statement, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched for a report of a domestic disturbance. Deputies were let inside the house by a witness and a disturbance could be heard upstairs. Deputies allegedly saw the victim propping herself up against a bed. She appeared to be in significant pain, according to the probable cause statement.

Deputies asked to talk to the two separately and Hazlett allegedly refused. He was eventually detained, the statement says.

The woman could hardly walk due to her injury and claimed she fell, according to the statement. A witness told deputies otherwise and claimed it was not the first time Hazlett potentially broke her leg, according to the statement.

A witness allegedly told deputies that they heard a loud banging from the room and heard Hazlett pull the woman off the bed. They allegedly entered the room and saw the victim on the floor with their leg bent out of place, according to the probable cause statement.

Medical personnel arrived and said there was a fracture to one of the victim’s major leg bones. She was allegedly unable to feel any stimulus in her toes, according to the probable cause statement. Medical personnel did not believe a pulse was present in her left foot because of the fracture.
