COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A large police presence was seen Monday afternoon in central Columbia.

Police told ABC 17 News they found evidence of one shot being fired.

Officers were near the corner of Washington Avenue and Pecan Street. An ABC 17 News reporter saw at least six officers, a number of which were knocking on doors in the area.

Police began blocking off the street around 3:15 p.m. The scene was completely cleared by 3:38 p.m.

Columbia Public Schools spokesperson Michelle Baumstark told ABC 17 News in an email that Hickman High School went on a “hold and secure for about 10 minutes.”

“The incident did not involve our school. Students are safe,” Baumstark wrote. “Hold and secure means we keep students inside, but learning continues. Our doors are locked and we have buzz-in systems. We also have an SRO and safety staff on campus.”
