School of the Osage holding classes online Thursday after second threat

LAKE OZARK, Mo. (KMIZ)

The School of the Osage is planning to hold classes online Thursday after district leaders were made aware of another threat.

The district shared a letter to families on Facebook around 9 p.m. saying that the buildings would be closed. The decision was made after leaders were notified about a threat targeting the district.

This is the second time the district notified families about a threat Wednesday.

"This one is different from the one we received earlier today because it references our district specifically and contains a photo of a firearm," the post said. "Students can access all instructions on Canvas by 10:00 am. And pre-K-5 students will receive assignments from their teachers via Remind. All buildings will be closed and there will be no Extended Learning."

Multiple agencies were already investigating a separate threat earlier in the day.

The Lake Ozark Police Department along with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook pages around 1 p.m. that they were investigating a "possible school threat referenced in social media."

The district emailed families about the first threat around 11:30 a.m. saying that investigators believed it to be a "copycat of a hoax from last week in another state."

Police said that there would be an increased law enforcement presence at some of the local schools Wednesday.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Osage Beach Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol are also investigating, according to the posts.
