COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was charged Wednesday after allegedly hitting a woman and threatening to kill her.
Navontae Nesbit, 34, is charged with second-degree domestic assault, first-degree kidnapping, armed-criminal action and tampering with a victim. He is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. Nesbit had a court appearance Wednesday.
Columbia police responded on Monday to a 911 hang-up call. Boone County Joint Communications told police that a witness said there was a woman outside an apartment screaming for help. The woman eventually said she no longer needed law enforcement and hung up, according to the probable cause statement.
Police arrived and spoke to the woman, who allegedly told police she didn’t need help, but she was allegedly holding a rag on her lip and was bleeding. The woman went to CPD on Tuesday and an officer noticed she was had scratches between her eyes and a “split lip.”
The woman allegedly told police an argument began with Nesbit. She allegedly told Nesbit to leave and he then threatened to shoot her and burn down her residence, according to the probable cause statement.
The statement says Nesbit threw his cellphone at the woman and put a hole in the wall. He allegedly grabbed her from behind and tried to choke her. The woman eventually was able to pry his hand from her mouth and then Nesbit allegedly punched her, according to the statement. Nesbit then allegedly ran to where he keeps his gun and threatened to shoot her, according to the statement.
The woman told police that she lied when the officer arrived because Nesbit was in the other room with a gun and she feared for her life, according to the statement.
