No suspect in custody after weekend shooting in Boone County
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
No one was yet in custody Monday evening after a shooting that left a 31-year-old man with life-threatening injuries and a child injured.
The shooting happened Saturday night around 6:35 pm on the 4300 block of West Bellview Drive. When officers arrived they found the two victims had been shot outside a home. The sheriff's department said Sunday in a social media post that evidence indicates that there could have been multiple shooters but no one has been arrested at this time.
Capt. Brian Leer, of the Boone County's Sheriff's Office, said the specifics of the shooters and what transpired that night cannot be released yet because it could alter the investigation.
"All I can tell you is we're actively investigating ...any details that may come in and ...you know we're gonna work hard to try to determine all the parties that were involved and identify any suspects," Leer said.
The child is 5 years old and is believed to have non-life threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to a local hospital to be treated. The condition of the man was not known as of Monday evening.
Shootings are an occasional occurrence on the street, which is located in an unincorporated part of southwest Columbia. Multiple homes were hit by gunfire last May on Bellview Drive.
Leer said there isn't any indication the public is in danger as a result of the shooting, and no suspects being arrested yet.
"We have nothing to indicate, you know, that there's any specific intent to harm anyone else in the community," Leer said.
