A Jefferson City man who was found guilty of killing a Lincoln University student in 2018 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Alfred Chism Jr, was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 years for second-degree murder and five years for armed-criminal action. The sentences will run consecutively.

Chism admitted to killing Charon Session in 2018, but he claimed it was in self-defense. Chism said Session had been harassing him before the shooting. Chism was indicted by a grand jury on a first-degree murder charge.

Session was hit twice, the probable cause statement said, and Chism called 911 to report the shooting.

Sessions’ mother was in court Tuesday.

“Two years I laid on my couch and waited for Charon to come home. Don’t understand how you can take a human being life and show you don’t care, and show you have no remorse,” she said. “I tried to forgive you. You knew him, and you know me. Every time we come to court you still can’t look me in my face. Give him 25 years, because that’s how many years the child I gave birth to was lost.”
