A Fayette man was in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday on accusations that he was among the suspects who shot into three homes last year.

D'Marte Thompson, 18, was charged Wednesday with illegal gun use and first-degree property damage in connection with the April 30, 2022 shooting. Police believe Thompson was at the end of a three-car convoy that fired shots in the area of Alpine Ridge and White River drives in north Columbia.

Officers found a vehicle with seven or eight bullet holes and a flat tire with a bullet inside and damage to four homes, a probable cause statement says. A person living on Dillon Drive had to duck to avoid being hit by a shot, the statement says.

Police tracked down Thompson by connecting his silver Ford Fusion to surveillance video from the night of the shooting, according to the statement.

Police seized a gun from Thompson that was used during the shooting during a traffic stop, the statement says. His vehicle also had bullet holes in the driver's side door that might have come from inside the vehicle, police say.

Thompson was 17 at the time of the shooting but is now 18.
